Papiamento
has three main dialects. The influence of Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch is
evident. Spoken in Aruba, Bonaire and Curaoa and, by migration, in the
Netherlands. The language also shows African influences, since the
population is mainly descended from African slaves brought in by Dutch
traders
Papiamento
is now taught in primary schools, but most people tend to be bilingual, as
the lack of Dutch is a hindrance to political and social advancement.
